چکیده
Application Note SI-01367 1 of 4 www.varianinc.com Introduction The Varian PIONA+TM Analyzer was developed to characterize the complete hydrocarbon sample composition, including individual oxygenates, in a single analysis of spark ignition engine fuels by multi-dimensional gas chromatography. The sample is separated in the component groups per carbon number and in individual components through the use of multiple columns and traps. In the PIONA+ system, paraffins, iso-paraffins and iso-olefins, olefins, naphthenes and aromatics are identified. However, analysis time in the PIONA mode is about 180 minutes, which severely limits the number of samples that can be analyzed per day. A unique aspect of the design of the Varian PIONA+ Analyzer is the ability to independently heat the individual traps (concurrent heating). This application note describes work to determine if concurrent heating could be used to significantly reduce the analysis time and improve sample throughput. Criteria for selection of components for surrogates of natural gas and transportation fuels q
The present paper addressed the production of soot precursors, acetylene, benzene and higher aromatics, by the paraffinic (n-, iso-, and cyclo-) and aromatic components in fuels. To this end, a normal heptane mechanism compiled from sub-models in the literature was extended to large normal-, iso-, and cyclo-paraffins by assigning generic rates to reactions involving paraffins, olefins, and alky...
متن کاملProduction of Light Olefins through Gas Oil Cracking
Light olefins such as ethylene, propylene, and butylenes, are basic building blocks for petrochemicals. Further, these olefins are also useful for production of clean fuels such as alkylates – which have high octanes but no sulfur, olefins, and aromatics – or as octaneenhancers such as ethers. The conventional olefin production process is steam cracking of C2−C4 light paraffins from natural gas...
متن کاملDetailed kinetic models for the low-temperature auto-ignition of gasoline surrogates
In the context of the search for gasoline surrogates for kinetic modeling purpose, this paper describes a new model for the low-temperature auto-ignition of n-heptane/iso-octane/hexene/toluene blends for the different linear isomers of hexene. The model simulates satisfactory experimental results obtained in a rapid compression machine for temperatures ranging from 650 to 850 K in the case of b...
متن کاملDevelopment of Reaction Kinetics for Diesel-Based Fuel Cell Reformers
Single component as well as binary component reforming studies were conducted on diesel surrogates (tetradecane, decalin, and 1-methylnaphthalene). H2, CO, and CO2 production was measured as a function of temperature, space velocity, and reforming type for a Pt-based catalyst. Intermediate species formation of various hydrocarbons including olefins and aromatics were observed during reforming. ...
متن کاملSelective production of light olefins from methanol over desilicated highly siliceous ZSM-5 nanocatalysts
Highly siliceous ZSM-5 nanocatalysts can dehydrate methanol to a wide range of hydrocarbons. In this study, the development of hierarchical H-ZSM-5 nanocatalysts (Si/Al=200) were reported for the methanol-toolefins (MTO) reaction. The nanocatalysts were prepared through a hydrothermal technique and treated by NaOH desilication. The parent and desilicated nanocatalysts were characterized using F...
